Reading Notes: Twenty-Two Goblins Part A

Intro:

  • Son of King Victory
  • A monk named Patience gives him a piece of fruit everyday for 12 years and one day he decided to give the fruit to a monkey who instead of the treasurer he usually gave it to.
  • When the monkey opened up the fruit the King saw a gem inside and realized there had been a gem inside each one that Patience had given him.
  • The next day the King asked the monk why he would give him such expensive things and the monk told him to meet him under a fig tree in the cemetery.
  • The King showed up and the monk told him that there is a sissoo tree in the distance with a dead body hanging from it and to bring it to him.
  • He brought down the body and it was a goblin.
  • He put the goblin on his shoulder and the goblin said to make the journey amusing, he would tell the King a story.
The book goes into the stories that the goblin tells the king. In Part A there is the first, second, and third goblin stories. Each story after starts with the last sentence of the intro where the goblin tells the King that he will tell him a story to make the journey back amusing.
