Feedback Strategies

The Difference Between Praise and Feedback talks about how to phrase the way you praise people. By saying personal praises like "Wow! This blog is amazing, you are a great writer," instead of process praises like "This blog is great, you worked really hard on it." makes it seem like the reason you are a good writer, painter, etc., is because it's a natural talent. That puts people in a fixed mindset and makes people think that everything comes naturally and you either have it or you don't. Whereas with a growth mindset you have the ability to know that your blog or painting is good because you worked hard on it to make it that way.

In the article How to Give Feedback Without Being a Jerk, it talks about the certain steps you should take when giving feedback to your peers or maybe even people who are higher up than you. When giving feedback you need to make sure you tread kind of lightly. Don't sugar coat it with a bunch of compliments and then have the real criticism sandwiched in between that. They miss the positives because they are waiting for the negative and it comes off more harsh than intended, usually. You can also make sure they are in the right headspace to receive feedback before you just start dishing it out.
